Our History
The Tea Tree Gully Football Club, then known as the Rifles, first recorded game wasagainst ‘The Adelaidians’ near Modbury on August 30 1862.
The match was played on what was kindly described as "a fallow paddock at Modbury".
For the record, there were no umpires and the game started around 2pm with twenty players in each side, at around 5:15pm, “The Adelaidians” kicked its second goal this amounted to an unsurpassable lead and the game was declared in their favour 2 goals to nil.
This game is one of the first ever recorded in South Australia.

The Gullies originally operated out of a tin shed at Memorial Oval and continued with relatively primitive facilities until its move to Pertaringa Oval in 1964. The current oval and clubroom facilities were built in 1969 and opened in 1970 as one of the most up to date rooms in the area.
The Tea Tree Gully Football Club holds the distinction of being one of the oldest continuously operating football clubs in Australia.
The Gullies originally wore the double blue colours and changed to red with a black trim in 1969.
During the Second World War it combined with Hope Valley, and after the War played in the East Torrens Association which became Norwood North.
In 1970 the Club moved to Pertaringa Oval where clubrooms were constructed to replace an old shed, and celebrated an 'A' team premiership in 1973.
It became an inaugural member of the S.A.F.A. in 1978 and chose a new design of red and black vertical stripes. In 1987 the current black Guernsey with a red sash was selected.
In 1988 it joined the SAAFL at level A6 and it took only eight seasons to reach A1.
It stayed in Division 1 for 5 of the next 6 seasons then settled down in Division 2, celebrating ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ and Under 17 premierships in 2001. Since then it has risen to A1 and fields 5 teams.
The Gullies are steep in history with many milestones including over 25, 200 game players - including 3 players playing more than 300 games and 1 over 400.
The Gullies have had over 20 players develop to play SANFL and a number to play AFL.
